Japanese Summer Festival
Went to the Japanese Summer Festival with my sister and her friend. It's hosted at the Japanese Primary School oppersit NUS,
the journy there by train then bus was way too long.
when we got there, we see all the japanese girls dressed in their Yukata, the summer kimono. The little girls, or as my sis calls then chibiko meaning dwafts, are way cute. =)
The three of us walked around looking for main dishes since it tends to sell out the fastest. Sat near the play round and ate bentos.
Why can't local fairs have such good food?
Determine to try out the "Scope the gold fish" game i literally braved the sandy slope with my heals, no thanks to my sister who only imformed me on casual dress only after we left the house.
At my 1st attempt, i'm prode to say theat i caught one goldfish!
My sister who claimed to know how to didn't.
-smirk-
Her friend, Shu yan caught one too. And it's for me to keep! whee!
After that, we went to play the game "Catch the Yo-Yo", where you use a hook suspended by paper, to 'catch' the ballons in the water.
The picture is of me when i just 'caught' my first one.
Our catch!
After that, my sister who's the only one who hadn't gotton a goldfish yet wants to try out again. (And me wanting to watch a white one.)
So there we go again to the catching.
And finally she caught one.
so out of the three of us, we caught 5 goldfishes. 3 red, 2 whites.
Now that is what i call beginner's luck. =)
My sister and Shuyan with our 'winnings'.
My sister and I.
We stood around the stage watching dances by the Japanese Association of Singapore and it was an eye opening. They danced an extract of what they had performed in Chingay this year and it was entertaining.
We also spend some time looking at the different yukata the girls are wearing.
I want one too!
The as usual, the food attracted the two older ones in the group when poor me was carrying the fishes and the ballons.
And talking picture of them.
Green Tea Meiji Ice-cream.
Tempting, but i mind my weight more.
Soon after, the japaneses started a tradition dance where all those at the festival join in the dance and surround the stage. My sister later told me that they taught the dance on the spot and will follow the instructor and just dance.
It was the highlight of the festival.
Though i can't really understand what is going on seeing that my sister and Shuyan are too busy eating their ice-creams for a on the spot translation. -.-
The Flashing Ducky.
Duck Arm band
Bought these toys at a stall that sells traditional festival toys. My sis bought a rabbit arm band, called it "rabbit" in jap and wore it all the way home.
Some times i wonder if she's the elder one or i am.
So that concludes our little journey to a Japanese Summer Festival. I swear the next year, i'll wear a yukata there and dance that traditional dance.
Wearing proper footwear and not sinking to to the sand every two steps.
P.S. The goldfish incase anyone is wondering, is perfectly safe and is currently swimming in my fish tank.
No animals are harmed in the process of catching the goldfish with a paper net. =)
