Earthquakes and Internet
Earthquake in Taiwan.i used to think earthquakes can't affect me at all,
seeing that i'm located away from the Pacific Ring of Fire
and located far away from all the plate boundaries.
Earthquates that happens when the Australian plate converges with the Eurasian Plate
will only cause little or no disterbance to my life here
in the near-central part of Singpore.
And an earthquake in Taiwan is is thousands of kilometers away from where i am
will not affect me at all.
eventhough the riter scale reads 6.7 as reported by the Taiwan News.
But i was wrong.
i almost died.
figuratively.
the earthquake that happened in the southern tip of Taiwan
which even caused trembles at the shores of China
and have over 120 aftershocks,
had affected Singapore too.
You know how they always say how golbalisation shrinks the world?
I had to agree to it totally.
The internet was affected for the whole day today.
the speed reminds me of the time where broadband is still a myth
Days when i survived with a 56k dail-up mordem.
I swear i will never EVER take my 10Mbps broadband for granted
and complain that it's way too slow.
That and i will ALWAYS save and pre-load fanfics that i'm addicted to.
In case of such things from happening again.
or like the country-wide black out.
not that saving stories on my thumbdrive will help at that time.
my novels will have to save the day at those time.
However, the thought of having electricity but no internet fills my guts with dread.
I never want to expreience the horror of seeing
"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
on my computer screen again unless there's really an error in the link.
brrrrrr.
Adding to this terrifing situation is the downpour outside.
The continuous rain fall,
which is expected till Friday as said by the NEA,
is disrupting my plans of taking over the shopping centers
in the form of a shopping spree.
and walking down orchard road just for the fun of it.
Could still remember a GP essay along the lines of
Technology makes the world a better place.
and i have to admit tht it does.
but it also brought over reliance on technology.
and i typed out a post that perfectly shows my ulter reliance on it.
Seeing that i have tons of unwatched DVDs here and uet,
the only thing i'm willing to do (or the lack thereof rather)
is to sit infront of my computer and whine about the (lacking) internet speed.
Talk about lazy brats with their computers.
Me.
EDIT:
To my horror, getting this post posted had caused me to see
that horrifing line of worlds again.
Thank merlin i'm smart enough to copy and paste this whole...
ramblings on a notepad.
Talk about nightmares.
On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.
